Google Ecommerce Tracking
Google Analytics has two separate Ecommerce Tracking solutions: Standard & Enhanced.
Google Analytics does not allow you to use their Standard & Enhanced tracking solutions at the same time - you have to pick one or the other. Because of this, our Google Ecommerce Tracking app requires you to specify which of the two tracking solutions you're account is configured to use.
Standard Ecommerce Tracking
To enable Standard Ecommerce Tracking in your Google Analytics account, do the following:
- Sign into your existing Google Analytics account.
- Click into the domain for your Storefront.
- Click the "Admin" tab at the top.
- In the "View" column, click "Ecommerce Settings".
- Enable Ecommerce, but do not enable Enhanced Ecommerce, when asked.
When this app is installed in your store, and configured for Google Analytics' Standard Ecommerce Tracking, it will automatically send details of each completed Order, to your Google Analytics account, from your customers's carts.
Order details sent to Google Analytics include the amounts and prices of Products purchased, which will allow you to see totals across Products.
Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking
To enable Standard Ecommerce Tracking in your Google Analytics account, do the following:
- Sign into your existing Google Analytics account.
- Click into the domain for your Storefront.
- Click the "Admin" tab at the top.
- In the "View" column, click "Ecommerce Settings".
- Enable Ecommerce.
- Enable Enhanced Ecommerce, when asked.
When this app is installed in your store, and configured for Google Analytics' Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking, it will automatically send the following events, to your Google Analytics account, from your customers's carts:
- Product Added to Cart
- Product Removed from Cart
- Checkout Initiated
- Order Completed
With the above events, you'll not only be able to see revenue breakdowns across Products, but you'll be able to see how many carts and checkouts are abandoned.
Please note that Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking supports a number of other actions, such as impressions, and product detail views. Because these things happen in your Storefront's theme, and not in the cart, we cannot support them. However, you are certainly welcome to add support to your theme for these additional actions.
Other Notes on Google Analytics
Our app will not send any other data about page views or shopping behavior to Google Analytics. However, if you've configured your Storefront's theme with your own Google Analytics account, your Store's page views will live alongside Ecommerce Tracking details sent by this app.
Data collected by Google Analytics will not always line up with your actual Orders in your Store's dashboard. This is because some visitors to your store may be browsing with plugins that prevent analytics and ad tracking scripts to run. Also, don't be fooled by timezone differences between your store and the Analytics from Google. This will also make days not line up if sales are counted for different days.
